The portrait is the subject of this workshop. The focus will concentrate on seeing values and applying color to make paintings successful and exciting. In this two day workshop, students will achieve an understanding of the relationships between value and color to achieve a more professional level of painting.
    Students should have some drawing skills and the desire to learn to paint the portrait. Students will observe instructor demonstrations  and create quick oil sketches from live models. Class will include anatomy of the head , breaking the head into simple shapes and the relationship of values and color. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of value comparison. Maczuga and Schacht will share their knowledge and observation of portraits by other artists, both masters and contemporary painters.
    Beyond the fundamentals of composition, drawing and values, color is the key element which will bring your paintings to life. Be prepared to work hard, make new friends and have fun.
